Conceito
Depois de uma pesquisa com quem trabalhar, estabeleci contacto com a Joana M. Lopes, que me permitiu trabalhar um texto ainda por publicar. A história "Passarinho" aborda temáticas abstratas à luz de um companheiro que habita no coração de qualquer leitor, colocando-as à luz da inocência infantil e fornecendo lições para miúdos e graúdos.
A representação desta personagem principal foi feita com a técnica analógica com o uso de aguarela e ecoline, juntamente com a abordagem digital com brushes riscadores e colagem digital de padrões relativos ao tema de cada dupla nas penas da ave. Esta última foi inspirada, numa maneira muito estilizada, por uma andorinha bebé. Bebé devido à proximidade ao público infantil que queria trazer. Andorinha devido à sua relação forte com a cultura portuguesa (como as andorinhas de cerâmica), com a sua ligação forte ao ninho (sendo uma das primeiras frases do livro), a sua simbologia ligada à infância, amor, nostalgia, família e, sobretudo, Primavera (trazendo elementos naturais e esta ideia de florir, crescer e germinar ao longo da narrativa).
A paleta cromática focou-se em cores quentes, devido à compilação de sentimentos calorosos como o amor, amizade, felicidade, entre outros, que o livro tanto enaltece.
After looking for someone to work with, I established contact with Joana M. Lopes, who allowed me to work a piece yet to publish. The story "Passarinho" (meaning "Little Bird" in Portuguese) talks about abstract themes through the eyes of a companion that lives in the heart of every reader, putting these topics in the light of a child's innocent, while giving lessons for every age.
The representation of this main character was done with an analogic technique with watercolors and ecoline, and with a digital approach with pencil brushes and digital collage of patterns related to the theme the spread was tackling on the feathers of the little bird. This one was inspired, in a very stylized way, by a baby swallow. Baby because I wanted to make the story close to its target audience. Swallow because of the bird's relation with Portuguese culture (in the country we have ceramic swallows in a lot of households. You can find more about it here), because of its nest bond (and it's the book first sentence), its symbology related to childhood, love, nostalgia, family, and above all, Spring (bringing natural elements and the idea of blooming, growing and germinate during the narrative).
The color pallet focused on warm colors, due to the compilation of warm feelings like love, friendship, happiness, and others, that the book praises.
Resultado Final
O livro é de capa dura, com formato de 225mmx225mm. Tem 14 duplas ilustradas, mais as guardas, ficha técnica e página de rosto, culminando numa peça de 32 páginas. Deixo aqui as fotos do produto final e as duplas ilustradas mas sem o texto, que por ser da autora e ainda não se encontrar publicado, é preferível. Para além disso, desenvolvi um book trailer.
The book is a hardcover, with the size of 225mmx225mm. It has 14 illustrated double spreads, plus the end papers, datasheet and front page, culminating in a piece with 32 pages. I'll leave here some photos of the final product and the double spreads without text, since the author didn't published it yet, so it's preferable. Besides that, I also developed a book trailer.
